Former Indian cricketer, Yusuf Pathan at the d.light India Annual Impact Conference
— held virtually on 25th June 2021
Yusuf Pathan may have bid adieu to cricket. But he still lives his life by the lessons that he picked up during his illustrious career.
d.light India recently held its annual impact conference for employees on 25th June 2021. Yusuf Pathan, an allrounder, who has represented India in international cricket and the Rajasthan Royal, Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League was the guest speaker at this conference.
Mr. Yusuf Pathan embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and team spirit. He has displayed grit and perseverance in his performance on the cricket field. Since retiring from all forms of cricket in February 2021, he has been spending his time in serving the society. Here are some pearls of wisdom that he had to share with our team members.
When opportunity comes knocking…
Mr. Pathan believes that hard work and preparedness will always serve you well. His first opportunity to play for India came in the final match of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Replacing Virender Sehwag, who was injured at the time, Mr. Pathan played a memorable innings as opening batsman and did his bit to take India to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup. He proved that as the team’s twelfth man, he could be relied on at any time to deliver results!
Humble personality who roars like a lion on the field
Mr. Pathan is known as the hardest hitter of the ball. So much so that bowlers are wary of him on the field. He explains this transformation in personality as he channels all his energies to ensure a win for the team whenever he is on the field. There will always be pressure to perform, but one must ensure that we do our best to win.
On how he motivates himself everyday
Mr. Pathan has gone through his fair share of career highs and lows. He believes in recharging one’s spirits by spending time with family and loved ones. He believes that even when one is not in the spotlight, one must reflect on our past work and pick oneself up again.
He says, even when one has bad days, one should not get discouraged by comparing yourself with others. We must judge ourselves against our last performance and work hard to get better with time.
A philanthropist at heart
Just like their honorable father, Mr. Mehmood Khan, along with his brother Mr. Irfan Pathan, Mr. Yusuf Pathan has extended support in the fight against COVID-19 in the form of free food kits for COVID-19 patients in home isolation South Delhi. Mr. Mehmood Khan has been providing food to those affected with COVID-19 in Vadodara.
His career spanning 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is between 2008 and 2012, while also starring in 2 world cup wins for India, Mr. Pathan has done India proud.
d.light was proud to have an opportunity to bestow upon Mr. Pathan, the title of Honorary d.light impact champion. We hope to imbibe his qualities of sportsmanship and team spirit to help us realize our vision of impacting 100 million lives by 2025.
